Both Sides of the Line
Experiences of World War Two
at the Sharp End
6 x 48 minute programmes
The ‘Both Sides of the Line’ series
provides veterans and survivors of World War Two’s most infamous
battles with a final opportunity to place their memories on record.
This is an unmissable opportunity to see and hear
former enemies tell their side of the story - to wrest some of military
history’s most enduring tales away from the historians, scholars
and authors and place them back in the hands of those who know -
because they were there.
Here, in more peaceful times, former enemies meet
once again. Men who faced each other in a desperate life-or-death
struggle during the maelstrom of World War Two now share their memories
together at the scenes of the war’s greatest battles.
These emotional meetings provide compelling and
powerful television viewing. Most powerful of all, however, is a sense
of history coming to life; of men unburdening themselves of a lifetime
of memories; of a determination to leave full and final tributes to
past deeds and fallen comrades.
The series features
Rare footage from Allied and German
libraries, plus footage from a previously unavailable Russian source.
Computer-generated illustrative maps
Previously unseen photographs and
memorabilia collected from the battlefields by the veterans
Each episode is underpinned by a single
narration outlining the background and events surrounding each great
battle.
